Kindness as our Guide
recognizing the experience of others...
This season can be tender, busy, and layered all at once.
As the days between the solstice and the new year unfold,
I’ve been holding this simple reminder close:
Everyone I meet is walking toward something
and away from something else.
I don’t need to carry them in their battle,
I get to tend to my own with kindness
and allow others the dignity of theirs.
Robin Williams has said, "Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always."
Plato is quoted with "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle."
I’m always a little amazed when I think about the population of this planet, and each one of us walking around with all of our history, all of our dreams, all of our ways of being… and I forget all too often that you are not OF me.
The dreams I may have for you, may actually not be FOR you, but for me….
And the freedom of living I receive when I let you be wholly you,
independent of me?
With that freedom, I can actually be present, I may actually be more resourced for what is.
