Resonance

February ‘26: The Gate of Expression
Edition 24

where frequency meets form...

I know there are times, in the seeking, where people tell me
similar or the same suggestion a hundred times over…

I can’t hear it, I can’t hear it, i can’t hear it…
and then suddenly, it makes sense.
Same advice, same me… different moment, different readiness.

Why does it land now?
Why does the wisdom resonate?

In physics, resonance happens when the driving frequency matches the natural frequency. As we are all made of molecules and vibrational beings, every thing has a natural frequency. So when an external push or wave matches the natural frequency, amplification can occur.

Remember being on a swing set?
That perfectly timed push that catapults you into the air?
Push at the wrong time or in the wrong place, nothing much happens.
Push at exactly the right moment, with the right force at the right time…joy.

Thinking of the resonance of sound.

How the vibration of a stringed instrument is amplified through the hollow body… one hand, one obstruction and that sound is dampened.

Looking at it through the lens of voice,
what if resonance isn’t about forcing your voice louder…
but about becoming that hollow vessel ready to amplify.

Or in terms of expression… to be more available to the timing of things?
Where in your life are you pushing too soon?
Where might you simply need to soften and wait for the match of frequency?

Until next….
in kindness,
Kirstin

This week’s inquiry:
My Natural Frequency

· What is resonant to me right now?

· Where have I felt matched? In timing, connection or energy?

· What advice has only recently begun to land?

· Where am I forcing momentum instead of waiting for alignment?

· What evidence do I have that I have been ignited before, that momentum has met me and matched my energy?

A reminder… that
I am not required to push the swing endlessly.
I am allowed to wait for the right moment of contact.
The next ignition will come, let me clear the path to see.

Read on to explore the relationship of resonance in the voice…

“My Body as my Instrument.”

Welcome back.

We’re still in the Season of Expression,
and we’re still looking through the lens of voice.

Last week we touched on breath and how the right-placed tension can move us forward, and unmanaged tension can distort what we’re trying to express or experience.

If we amplify that conversation, our next step is resonance.
We’ll move into another breath exercise… touching sound, getting in tune
with our resonators. Just like a guitar: the strings make noise,
but it’s the shape of the instrument’s body that allows the note to soar.

Our resonators are bones and hollow spaces… sinus cavities, ribcage, skull.

The question becomes:What shapes support amplification?

In physics, resonance happens when the frequency of a force matches the natural frequency of an object. I love the swing set example, that moment when you push at just the right time. Not too early. Not too late. Just the right velocity and contact,
and suddenly the swing blooms into the air.

Timing.

It’s not enough to “know the thing”.
If I act in the moment that is begging for revelation, it has greater impact.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard advice repeated
and it doesn’t land until I’m ready.
Then suddenly I hear it one more time and everything aligns.
The frequency and the readiness meet.

That’s resonance.

So we soften the knees.
Or undulate the spine.
Let the skull dance on the spine.

Hand on belly. Inhale.
Exhale on a gentle “huh.”

Touch sound.
Invite vibration.

Where does it land? Chest? Sinuses? Skull?

If the sound only lives in the throat,
I could be cutting myself off from the powerhouse below my neck.

If my jaw is clenched, I’m muffling expression.

No right or wrong.
Just access.

Do I have access to the whole instrument?

Massage the cheekbones.
Slack in the jaw.
Part the lips.
Raise and lower the eyebrows.
Make the face small. Make it big.

Notice if the sound feels warmer. Rounder. Brighter.
When I think of resonance, I think of warmth.

Multiple surfaces. Depth.
And beyond the body …

What is resonant to me?

I had a moment today. I was tired. It was rainy. I expected to be drained.
Instead, I sat with another human who was doing the same work I was doing.
One small insight landed — and suddenly we were both energized.

The conversation GAVE me more energy than it took.
That’s resonance embodied.

Sometimes I forget I have impact. I forget I have worth. The naysayer gets loud.
But I can call back the evidence of resonance — moments I’ve been ignited.

Reminding myself, If I’ve been ignited before,

I’ll be ignited again.

So maybe I can hold on
and wait for the next push
